Canadian Water Resources Association – Water Management Award of Excellence - 2018

The CWRA Water Management Award intends to recognize CWRA members and their organizations for outstanding projects that make a significant contribution to the protection and wise management of Canada’s water resources.

Award Purpose

  • To showcase projects that have demonstrated a commitment to the protection and wise management of Canada’s water resources.

  • To showcase projects that would educate and stimulate awareness and understanding of Canada's water resources and the recognition of the high priority and value of water.

  • To raise awareness of CWRA to members and non-members.

Award Criteria

  • The award is open to any study or project that has demonstrated a commitment and innovation in the protection and wise management of Canada’s water.

  • Projects must be located in the host province for the National Conference. If the project is a watershed-related study that crosses provincial boundaries, the project proponent/owner must be in the host province.
    Provinces and/or Territories Eligible to Submit for the 2018 National Conference: British Columbia and Yukon Territory.

  • The award is open to organizations and requires that at least one core project team member be a CWRA member in good standing and that at least one core project team member fully register and attend the conference to accompany the submission.

  • The project must have been substantially completed within the past four years of the award application deadline.
    For submission to the 2018 National Conference, project completed no earlier than: 1 February 2015

Award Process

Stage 1 - Submission of an Entry

  • Click “Submit Award Entry” from the Water Management Award of Excellence page of the conference website.

  • Click “Make Submission” and fill out the required information in the submission form.

  • For the “Topic Areas” section of the submission form, select “AWARD - CWRA Water Management Award”.

  • You will need to paste in the online entry submission a one-page abstract of your project.

  • Before submitting the online entry form, print and mail the completed form with a cheque for $100 per project submission 

For an entry to be valid, a non-refundable entry fee of $100 per project must be submitted.

  • Record your password and username as you will need them to update your submission if your project is selected as a finalist!

  • Finalists will be notified if their selection will be showcased at the conference.


Stage 2 - Conference Showcase of Award Finalists

  • If you have been notified as a finalist for Stage 2, complete the following:

    • Submit a project summary of no more than 10 pages. Your summary must adequately describe the project objectives, intent, constraints, challenges, accomplishments, and unique/outstanding elements, etc. The summary is to be uploaded to your original submission. Remember your username and password!

    • Prepare a display board to be exhibited during the conference. The display board is a requirement and a PDF copy must be provided with the project summary. Display board specifications include:

      • mounted on foam core board or equivalent.

      • maximum dimensions (length + width) not to exceed 72” in total (i.e., 36” x 36” or 40” x 32”).

  • Judging would take place by the host conference’s organizing committee’s awards subcommittee. If members of the awards committee work for organizations that have submitted projects for consideration, these members shall abstain from judging their respective organization’s submissions.

  • The award winner will be given recognition during the awards presentation at the National Conference (May or June), a recognition page (8” x 10”) to be published in the CWRA WaterNews, a plaque and an award certificate.


Important Dates and Information **Dates to be finalized**

  • Stage 1 submission and fee deadline: must be received by 20 April 2018

  • Initial evaluation of entries: 22-28 April 2018

  • Notification of finalists for Stage 2: May 4 2018

  • Stage 2 electronic submission (PDF) of your project summary and display board deadline:

  • Friday 18 May 2018.

  • Display boards to be delivered by the proponent to the conference venue no later than the conference opening.

  • Winning submission will be announced and award presented during the CWRA’s National Conference evening banquet.
